Hospitality is one of the earliest missions of Friendship Place and it remains a core element. Referred to as "the little blue house" by many in the community, homeless men and women can drop into Friendship Place five days a week and know they are welcomed and will be treated with respect. It is a place for guests to escape from the streets and simply sit, read the paper and drink a cup of coffee as noted by the quote on the right.

Besides providing respite, consumers can also

  • see a case manager
  • use our address to receive mail
  • use a telephone
  • get connected to the homelessness voicemail system
  • visit with a doctor or psychiatrist
  • get help in applying for housing

FAQs

What does Friendship Place do?
Starting with outreach to people who are living on the streets and in the parks of our community, Friendship Place offers a range of services that will help them rebuild their lives. A homeless person who walks into Friendship Place finds hospitality and companionship over coffee and sandwiches, access to a telephone and mail delivery, and a case manager who will help him or her through the process of recovery. Depending on the person’s needs, the services provided will include assistance in qualifying for public benefits, healthcare, psychiatric evaluation, mentoring and, eventually, housing.
