Through Community Council for the Homeless at Friendship Place you can join with your Washington, DC, neighbors to assist some of the homeless people you see every day in rebuilding their lives:

  • Volunteer: Join more than 350 active volunteers at Friendship Place.
  • Become a Business Sponsor.
  • Donate items on our wish list.
  • Participate in the Help the Homeless Walkathon.
  • Consider Planned Giving.
  • Contribute: Support Friendship Place. There are a number of ways to contribute to Friendship Place. Your contribution will support our program of outreach and services.

 

Other ways to help:

  • Consider donating through our Consignment or TradeAssist program! Items you have at your home could make money for Friendship Place! Find out how.
  • Encourage your neighbors to respond respectfully—and more effectively—to the needs of homeless people living on the streets in your community.
  • Schedule a Friendship Place speaker at a meeting of your business, religious or community group by contacting Bill Long at 202-364-1419 or emailing us through our Contact page.
  • If you see a homeless person on the street in cold weather, you can call the Hypothermia Hotline at 1-800-535-7252. The Hotline provides blankets and transportation to shelters during the winter months.

On a typical night, there are nearly 6,000 homeless people living on the streets and in other public areas, in temporary housing and in shelters in Washington, D.C.
